Project Mt. View
Complete Remodel of Existing Home & Addition
Mt. View, California
A 1928 old bungalow home in tear-down condition was purchased in 2016 by a married couple. They had a vision to transform it into a modern functional house. With planning and creative thinking, the result was above expectations.
The existing 821sf house was fully remodeled, with a 900sf addition and a new garage on a 5,880sf lot. In 2018 construction is finished.
As buildable land becomes more and more scarce closer to urban centers, home buyers are now willing to purchase properties that in the past weren't attractive to get because of their odd and, or small, shape lots. But, with creative thinking designing new homes on those lots is now a great option. It means shorter commutes, and that means the buyer will have more time to enjoy their homes built closer to their work.
My clients were set for a functional layout and wanted to take advantage of the private back yard. I worked closely with them and the city to develop the most efficient house plan possible, ensuring we used the most available space we had.
The use of exterior materials and floating porch roof give a fresh new look to the front facade that stands out on the street.
In partnership with the clients, we are recently developing a 2nd story addition to this house.
